And he came into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan. The Pharisees came to him, and tempting him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? And he answered and said unto them, He made them male and female and blessed them. For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: And they twain shall be one flesh. They are therefore no more twain, but one flesh. What God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. They say, They say, Did Moses command to write of a divorcement, and to put her away? Being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto them, Because of the hardness of your heart. But from the beginning, whosoever shall put away his wife and marry another, committeth adultery. I say unto you, whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: And whosoever shall marry her that is divorced, committeth adultery.
