116
As he sat at meat there came a
woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment of spikenard, and poured
it on his head and anointed with oil and wiped to his feet with her hair.
They had indignation, saying, Why was this waste? For ointment might have been
sold for three hundred pence and given to the poor. Jesus said, Why trouble ye
the woman? She hath wrought a good work on me. Let her alone. Ye have the poor
always with you; but me ye have not always. She hath oint my body, she hath done
this for my burying. Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever the whole world this
gospel shall be preached, this that this woman hath done shall also be, for a
memorial of her.
