Comment:
The widely held belief that Simon the Canaanite was therefore a Zealot, that is,
a member or former member of the group which assassinated Jews (mainly in
Jerusalem) who aided the Romans, may or may not be correct. If it is correct,
then it implies that the conduct of Simon the Canaanite greatly changed before
becoming an Apostle, especially in view of the fact that the Apostle Levi had
been a collector of taxes on behalf of the Romans, and was therefore one of the
most hated sort of Jews who aided the Romans.
